-
Can I join if I've never used a power tool?
Yes!
These workshops are meant to introduce the basics for those who have never used a power tool before or want a refresher. They have been created to offer a welcoming, supportive space just for women with no judgment, no pressure, just encouragement and fun.
All courses are considered beginner level.
-
What type of tools do we use?
These workshops focus on learning how to use an impact driver and the orbital sander. You will will be given safety instructions and general tips and tricks about woodworking throughout the workshops.
All wood is pre-cut. There is no use of saws during these beginner workshops.
-
What's included in my registration?
At each workshop, you'll get hands-on experience with power tools and complete your very own project to take home.
Every workshop includes step-by-step guidance, all materials and supplies required, the use of the power tools needed, and a $10 Rona+ gift card.
Each workshop begins with a brief intro to power tools in general along with a Q&A at the end.
-
Do I have to register for a workshop or can I just show up?
Advanced registration for our workshops is required.
Each workshop is limited to between 5-8 participants (depending on the project) to ensure instructor is able to provide individualized support.
-
Do you offer workshops all the time?
Yes and No.
Workshops are offered and scheduled based off of interest. If a workshop does not have full registration, it is possible it will not be offered again, so if you have interest in one, register while you can!
I am always trying to come up with new workshops so projects will vary throughout the year.
It's possible that a workshop date may be cancelled there are not at least 4 registrations.
-
Where are the workshops held?
Workshops are hosted at Rona+ locations across Ottawa.
They are predominately hosted at the Rona+ Kanata/Stittsville location with additional dates at the Carleton Place and Orleans locations (depending on interest).
-
Can I come with my daughter?
At this time, participants must be 16+ years of age.
Have a daughter under 16? I am available to visit Girl Guide groups to chat all things power tools and do a show-and-tell to bridge the gap until they can do some hands projects.
-
Do you offer private workshops?
Yes! Private workshops are available!
You choose the date, your closest Rona+ location, and your project and I can make it happen!
A minimum of 6 registrants are required and we can set up a time exclusively for your group during the weekday or evening.

What should I bring/wear?
Just yourself! We provide all tools, safety gear, and materials.
Because the workshops are around 2 hours long, I recommend wearing comfortable, closed-toed shoes. Chairs will be available in the case you ever need to take a break :)
Please do not wear anything with very loose sleeves. Otherwise, you can wear anything you want as we’ll have aprons to protect your clothes from any sawdust and stain.
If you have long hair, I do recommend putting it up.
-
What accessibility accommodations are available?
My goal is to make these workshops welcoming, inclusive, and accessible as possible.
Workshops involve standing for long periods of time (up to 2 hours), require basic hand-eye coordination when using tools, and measuring.
Chairs and anti-fatigue mats are provided as well as safety glasses, dust masks, and ear plugs for use during the session. Water is also provided to every participant.
It is important that any needs are shared prior to registration so that I can ensure accommodations are made in advance. If additional support is required, please do not hesitate to reach out!
