Power Tools 101
Presented by Project Pine x RONA+ x DeWalt. All proceeds donated to the Ottawa Food Bank.
Join me for a fun and informal evening designed to help women feel more confident navigating the power tool aisle! Whether you’re brand new to DIY or just want to understand your tools better, this session is for you.
As an amateur DIYer and woodworker, I’ve learned a lot over the past 10 years and I’m excited to share my favourite beginner-friendly tools, practical tips, and the advice I wish I’d known when I first got started.
Plus, Rebecca from DeWalt will be on-site to demo a few essential tools, answer questions, and share pro insights straight from the field! After the demos, you’ll have the chance to safely try out a few tools like an impact driver, sander, and multi-tool. Please note that while an intro to saws will be done, no use of saws will occur during this session.
We’ll chat about things like:
- What’s the first tool I should buy?
- Do I have to stick to one brand?
- Cordless vs. plug-in: what’s best for beginners?
- What’s the difference between a mitre saw and a jigsaw?
- What’s an impact driver, and why does everyone love them?

Tools were explored and questions were answered, no matter how basic. The atmosphere was casual and welcoming.
Rachelle is willing to share her knowledge about tools and more! Plus you get to meet some very nice people too.
If I had to choose between a gala event cocktail or this workshop, I would go for the workshop - so much more interesting!
Rachelle provides such a welcoming and open space to learn. I never felt like any of my questions were "dumb" as the women-only attendance was supportive. Everyone else was asking questions and engaging. Rachelle not only gave us a good base and background of the tools and uses, but also explained key differences that I hadn't yet understood. She has a loud and articulate speaking voice, so it was easy to understand everything she was saying. You could tell she really understood what she was talking about which made it easier to trust her knowledge. I feel much more inspired and confident in using an impact driver now!
I learned a ton of good information all while feeling really comfortable and enjoying it. It was so refreshing feeling like it was okay asking any questions. I look forward to my next workshop soon.
